Beyond Paper Scrapbook Layout
with Melissa Oliveira

SCRAPbooking doesn’t just have to be about paper and pictures, does it? Take your creativity to the next level by learning how to incorporate fabric and fibers into your layouts! Melissa Oliveira has combined her loves for paper and fabric and designed a class that will show you several ways to incorporate fabric, fiber, and thread into a creative 12x12 scrapbook page that is filled with texture without being too bulky and busy. Machine stitching and hand stitching techniques will be covered as part of the instruction of this class, so whether you are a beginner or an experienced sewer, you will leave with the knowledge and inspiration to be able to add a bit of textile flair to your future projects.

Supplies Needed: paper trimmer, scissors, adhesive , foam adhesive, liquid adhesive (glossy accents or scrap dots), scotch or masking tape, 4x4 photo, *craft iron if you have one, *sewing machine if you have one

All Occasion Lawn Party!

Everyone always looks forward to Jenn’s card classes, and this one is sure to not disappoint! Everyone in this class will get a free 6x6 paper pad from Lawn Fawn! This class is featuring all images from Lawn Fawn and we will create 5 all occasion cards. These cards will be great to add to your stash of cards for when you need a card in a pinch! We will play with the new “Lawn Cuts” dies, Copic Markers, pattern papers, watercolor pencils, twinkling H2O’s, and more! Take a break from cropping and join in on the wicked fun time in Jenn’s class, you won’t be disappointed!

Supplies Needed: scissors, tape runner, foam adhesive, quickie glue pen, 2x3 inch acrylic block

No KITting!

There are many fantastic companies that produce monthly kits filled with a variety of papers and embellishments that can be turned into multiple scrapbook layouts, but you can’t subscribe to EVERY kit club out there. Melissa Oliveira has put together a class featuring patterned papers, cardstocks and embellishments from a variety of manufacturers that will help you achieve that “kit” look while creating THREE layouts! You will put together two 12x12 and one 8 1/2x11 layout focusing on a single photo and embellishments that are fun and fresh and on trend with today’s scrapbook kit styles. You will also learn some of Melissa’s tips for putting together your own scrapbook “kits” and how to make a cohesive set of layouts.

Supplies Needed: Paper Trimmer, Scissors, Adhesive, Foam Adhesive, Antique Linnen (light brown) ink pad, Black Journaling pen, Colored Pencils, (1) 4x4 photo for 12x12 layout, (1) 4x4 photo for 12x12 layout, 3-5 photos that can be trimmed to 1 1/2” for 8 1/2x11 layout

Photo Walk

Cost: $50 Note: This class is for DSLR users, or advanced Point and Shoot cameras (the ones with manual settings email Sarah if you have questions)
Limited to 14 participants!

After a quick review of camera settings, we will head out to shoot! A hands on photography lesson, where we take our cameras off of AUTO and learn how to use Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, and metering on full manual! (That’s right…manual!) All class participants will receive a quick-start guide and a credit toward one of Sarah’s full-day photography workshops.

Smile Each and Everyday mini book
with Jenn Shurkus

If you have a few scraps of chipboard and some sheets of cardstock, you have the makings of an awesome mini book and this class can show you how! Jenn will show you how you can take a perfect idea for a mini album and get started on it right away! Believe it or not the answer to your problem might be right in your stash of scrappy supplies and you didn’t even realize it! This mini book is perfect for documenting “everyday life”. Jenn will share with you tips on how to document the simple moments in life. She will demo with you the Silhouette Cameo and everyone will get a set of embellishments from it.

Supplies Needed: pencil, ruler, bonefolder, scorer or scorepal, score tape or another STRONG adhesive, edge distresser, foam tape, glossy accents, tape runner, scissors, paper trimmer, 12 pictures 4x4in or smaller, journal notes for each pic (you will be able to use Jenn’s typewriter in class)
Supplies if you own: stapler or tiny attacher

Mixed Media Wall hanging

Create a beautiful mixed media wall hanging for your home using the latest and greatest products from Splash of Color!
Cheryl takes you through creating a unique textured project starting with plaster and fabric! She shares her knowledge of Luminarte Silks and H20’s creating a one of a kind project! You don’t want to miss this one!
Supplies Needed: 12” cutter, scissors, 3 in 1 glue, tweezers, paper towels, baby wipes, teflon mat, spray bottle , water bucket{to clean brushes}, metal palette knife, 3/4” paint brush, heat dryer, white gesso, self healing mat. Bring a favorite stamp and/or stencil.
Optional supplies: If you have luminarte products {silks, h20’s} you can bring them with you.

Mixed media Altered book!

Creating mixed media albums and journals are all the rage!! Cheryl shares all of her newest techniques and helps you understand all of the newest products while helping you create a unique journal! The finished project will be a work of art that will encompass all of the beautiful techniques but still allowing the freedom of expressing your own unique style! The finished book is sure to be a favorite!
Supplies Needed: 12” cutter, scissors, 3 in 1 glue, tweezers, paper towels, baby wipes, teflon mat, spray bottle , water bucket{to clean brushes}, metal palette knife, 3/4” paint brush, heat dryer, white gesso, Matte medium self healing mat. Bring a favorite stamp and/or stencil.

Class Instructors

Sarah Kristiansen is the owner and principle photographer for Sweet Jane Photography out of Providence, Rhode Island. Mom to Sam (9) and Jane (7), she is never at a loss for a willing subject. She is a Nikon girl, and has not had her camera set to AUTO for more than 7 years now. Specializing in wedding photography, Sarah also teaches photography classes. Cheryl Mezzetti is an accomplished designer and artist who has been working in the paper arts industry for several years. She has been frequently published in scrapbooking and paper crafting magazines including Scrapbook Trends, Paper Trends, Correspondence Art, Scrapbooking & Beyond, Paper Creations, Paper Works, Better Homes & Gardens and Paper Art. She is the current Design Team Coordinator for Creative Imaginations and Petaloo Flowers. As in instructor, she has taught at many conventions and scrapbook stores throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. Cheryl is a versatile crafter who has made a name for herself as an altered artist. She turns flea market finds into breathtaking works of art using a variety of media, but often incorporating patterned papers and scrapbooking embellishments. Says Cheryl: “I believe that each of us has a passion and dream that is unique and the best way to succeed is to discover what we love and share it with others. Melissa Oliveira is a full time mom to three active children and has been a member of the Core'dinations Color Core Cardstock design team for the past 5 years. Combining her love for photography, paper and all things fiber, Melissa often infuses elements of sewing and stitchery onto her scrapbook pages. You will never find her far from her sewing machine or vlintage typewriter when she is working on design team assignments or creating layouts just for fun. After working at Colorful Creations for five years, Melissa now spends her time running around after one big boy and two little girls, making more memories to commit to paper (if naptime goes well and she can escape to her studio space for a few precious minutes!). Sharing her passion for "doing it your own way" and thinking outside of the scrapbooking box are concepts that she hopes you will leave her classes feeling inspired and empowered by.  Visit Melissa's blog or find her fabric and fiber creations on facebook.

Jenn Shurkus lives in Providence, with her kitty Mister Harley. She’s been papercrafting for over 10 years, and has played
multiple roles in the paper craft industry as an independent store manager, designer and teacher. With a degree in graphic design she is also Copic and Ranger certified. She is part of the
Lawnscapings Challenge Design Team. Even though Jenn is a web designer by day she still loves to show people new and
clever ideas to design their cards and projects. She has a flair for the “artsy-fartsy” without going over the top. She designs her
projects in the way to inspire, but not intimidate. Traveling all over New England she is eager to share her creative passions with
